Early Artifacts That Formed The Campaign

The Heart Of Praxis - The False Machine

The still beating heart of PRAXIS The False Machine. Now imprisoned within the un-operational God Engine. The first Metal Mage. Over a timeless lifespan Praxis gained mastery over The Ordinance Of Assemblace thus securing a position in God-hood. Harnessing the power of fictional metal he eventually consumed the lesser gods creating a glorified mechanical realm all his own. In pursuit of the secrets of creation his explorations led him beyond even the constraints of God-hood and mere power. He thus achieved the ultimate. PRAXIS entered Nirvana in fathomless glory, thus becoming the beginning and the end. The fist and last cosmic ripples that give shape and form to everything that is, was, and ever shall be. The very nature of reality itself.



The Staff Of Re-Configuration

Within the esoteric orders of the 18 Arahants of The Metal Mountians, it is taught that PRAXIS once wielded a mechanical mighty staff, formed from the enlightened sentience of fictional metal. It was the power and wisdom of this staff that allowed him to overcome and consume the lesser deities. But the staff was lost to PRAXIS after his ascension and transmutation into the Ultimate.

The staff would later be found by an ancient alien race. It's power explored, it's wisdom corrupted and lesser versions of it's design re-created. Thus giving rise to the powerful and destructive devices known as Ruathian. Devices that the Delnoch, the creators, would eventually lock their sentience into to prevent the coming extinction of their race.

When activated the rings on this device start to whirl, configuring themselves into various geometrical shapes, tearing open the very fabrics of reality.



Dagger of Rust

Carried by Saint Toepher, acolyte of Rust. It is the only artifact known to bring true death to a Metal Mage by driving it into the Mage's gear driven, mechanical heart. Thus granting true salvation.



Campaign Notes: I was going through my notebooks from 2014-2015 and came across these magical items which were really the genesis for the ALMOST Campaign. The introduction of these three items is what transformed ALMOST from a few location based areas into an on-going 5+ year campaign as we uncovered more about the mysteries behind these items. Thus PRAXIS took formation as did the God Engine and Metal Mages. The Staff Of Re-Configuration marked the beginnings of a new magical system that relied on ancient devices known as Ruathian. To support the devices as the only means of magic I abolished the gods, trapping them in mortal flesh thus stripping them of their power. This new direction really took shape with nothing but these three items, but would develop through emergent play into something much grander.
